Set in the lively Gallery District of San José del Cabo, this 3-star hotel offers a distinct blend of industrial and minimalist design. The rooms feature modern, practical layouts with some including hammocks for relaxed lounging. Guests enjoy an outdoor pool that provides a refreshing retreat after exploring the vibrant arts scene and nearby eateries.
Drift doubles as a cultural hub, highlighted by its on-site mezcal bar and restaurant—Drift Kitchen + Mezcal Bar—which receives high praise from visitors. While the space is stylish and well-maintained, some design choices like open showers may challenge those valuing conventional layouts. However, the welcoming staff and central location nearby key attractions lend the stay a comfortable and authentic local experience.
The hotel’s event venues attract groups looking for a bespoke, intimate atmosphere, ideal for weddings or welcome parties. Its proximity to Art Walk, beaches, and downtown San José del Cabo offers opportunities for both relaxation and cultural exploration on foot.

“Recently stayed at the Drift for one night en route to a work event in Cabo San Lucas. The property itself was very nice, unique, and modern. I must point out, however, that I feel some of the design is not practical and / or potentially even dangerous. For example, the open shower design is very cool but water does splash everywhere. Given the floor is concrete it’s very easy to slip. Taking a warm shower also results in the entire hotel room getting very moist. Also, while the mini fountain and steps into the room is nice, I can see children falling in or someone missing a step after too many drinks! One last thing, if you’re staying here as a Bonvoy member, late checkout is not guaranteed (as with all Design Hotels). I was granted 1pm checkout even though I didn’t see that the room was booked on my check out date. All in all, we had a nice one night stay and the location was phenomenal for walking but I don’t think I will be back, and I would not recommend this property to anyone with children due to the safety concerns I mentioned.”
“Drift was the perfect spot to have all our wedding guests stay. It was so fun to have the whole hotel be just our guests and was the perfect spot for our welcome party. The cocktails at Drift are absolutely incredible, as is the food. A special mention to Drift’s manager Alex, our wedding weekend wouldn’t have been possible without Alex. He made sure everything went so smoothly, while always keeping us in the loop. Alex absolutely goes above and beyond for guests at the hotel. The entire staff is the same way. Thank you Alex and your staff for making our wedding weekend extra special, we will be forever grateful to you for all you did for us. If you are considering a hotel buyout, look no further you will not regret it! : Marcella Laine Photography”
“I had a wonderful one week stay at Drift! It’s a wonderful sanctuary right in the center of town, perfect for walkability. My room was small but very efficiently laid out with a super comfortable bed. The hotel is spotless. The breakfast burritos are worth visiting alone! Most of all the staff is wonderful here. Zay went above and beyond throughout my stay, and even arranged a visit to a nearby beach club at a great discount. Alex was also wonderful and gave so many memorable local recommendations. I’d stay again for sure!”
“Location - 3 min walk to downtown square and close to many bars and top notch eateries. Service - friendly, very accomodating and willing to help with any questions. Location - we stayed here to be closer to the airport and wish we would have came before our last day in Cabo. Sam José del Cabo and Drift, we will see you again! Thank you!”
“Beautiful and cozy! The room we had is small but very comfortable and nicely designed. It is centrally located but super quiet and we had a very good night of sleep after a long trip here. The kitchen and bar is also meticulous. All staff members are very warm and friendly. Highly recommended!”
